After contemplating about this for a while, I finally decided to launch a YouTube Channel to read diverse books online. As the mother of kids who actively live a “multi” life, age-appropriate discussions surrounding diversity – race, racism, skin colors and colorism, discrimination, Black Lives Matter, the state of our current political reality, gun violence, women’s empowerment, LGBTQ concerns – are topics we talk about as and when they arise and hopefully, our kids are growing up with at least some degree of awareness of the world around them.
I actively listen to NPR in the car and the kids, when riding with me, listen in too. Then, they have questions – and I answer them, as honestly and in as much of a kid-friendly way as I possibly can. If I can’t, I give them a gist of the context with the promise to explain as they get older. What has strengthened my kids’ abilities to be open to discussions of these kinds is the fact that we introduced our kids to these topics very early in their lives.
With all of the above in mind, the reason to start a channel exclusively for the purpose of reading books, reviewing items, and promoting ideas of diversity and multiculturalism seemed like a no-brainer. If you would like to support my initiative, please consider doing one or more of the following:
(1) Subscribe to my channel.
(2) Please be an active subscriber by watching the videos. If the specific topic is not of interest to you, share the link with someone who might be.
(3) Please invite friends to subscribe to the channel and encourage them/their kids to view the videos.
(4) Recommend your favorite books that pertain to themes of diversity so I can read them on my Channel.
finally,
(5) Please consider making a purchase from my Amazon Wishlist so I can own copies of the books I would like to read on the Channel.
