Do you blog? Invitation to Join My First Link Party – #BloggerBeatz

In perhaps one of my most ambitious blogging plans for 2017, I am really excited to announce the starting of my own link party for fellow bloggers. To my most loyal blog readers, nothing will change for you except the opportunity to read even more perspectives from a variety of writers on a wide range of topics, all going well with the party, that is. Otherwise, you have me as always. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

So…here I go…

Let me introduce you to…Drumroll please…..

But first, for those who may not know: What is a link party?

A link party or linky is an opportunity to link your blog posts to a host blog/blogger and connect with other bloggers on a variety of topics. Some linkys have a theme or a challenge component to them. Some don’t. The point, at least in my opinion, is to get together, share our writing with others, provide feedback, and build a community of online blogger friends.

After having participated in a number of link parties over the months, I am launching my own,

Why the name #BloggerBeatz?

Let me explain:

Back in the day when I worked as a journalist from 1998-2001, I worked in the Features Department of a major English language newspaper. I  was still working on completing my B.A. degree and because of that (not having a degree yet being only 19 years old and all), my title was more that of a stringer than a card-carrying reporter. Nevertheless, I lived a very productive, busy, and fulfilling professional life.

I did not officially have a beat like all my colleagues who actually went to J-school did but I did a LOT of other things unofficially and loved every bit of it. I even had my own PRESS ID card (acquired after an assertive chat with my Resident Editor and of which I am really proud to this day) and PRESS stickers on my vehicle that allowed me many privileges (like getting out of a traffic ticket, and being allowed to park where others weren’t allowed).

So what is a beat? A beat is a specific category or genre of reporting. For example, as a reporter, your beat could be crime, or entertainment, or science and technology, and so on. A beat essentially refers to in-depth reporting on a niche area or topic. With #Bloggerbeatz, your beat is your life, whatever you choose to post on your blog – after all, only YOU are the expert capable of in-depth reporting on your life’s events. Additionally, the plural ‘beats‘, a play on words, if you will, also refers to physically descriptive actions (e.g., a crooked smile, a frown) taken by characters who are written into stories. Writers of fiction will especially be aware of this terminology.

(After weeks of brainstorming, I came up with the name BloggerBeats only to discover someone else was already using it – it did not exist during my original research but someone swooped in between then and this linky going live. So as not to create confusion on social media with hashtags, I decided to recreate the spelling rather than go back to the drawing board)

With #BloggerBeatz, I hope to reach a diversity of bloggers who write and writers who blog.

I want #Bloggerbeatz to be an inclusive platform to share our writing, build community, and promote our work. While some bloggers excel at self-promotion, many others are hesitant to self-promote or are simply shy. This linky is an opportunity to let others read your posts, tweet, and comment, and for you to reciprocate. Not much self-promotion but a little bit of other-promotion, if you will. It is an opportunity to get feedback and well…also get more traffic to your posts.

I hope that you come back every month and link your posts to #BloggerBeatz. The first few months may be a little slow but I am sure things will only get better as the linky gets more posts and gains more readers over time. If not, no worries, I tried.

If you are new to linkys and link parties, read this very helpful guide.

Also, if this is your first time doing a linky, please read everything carefully and feel free to ask me a question using the Comments section below. This way, my answers will be available to others who may have the same question/s.

#BloggerBeatZ will run every month, from the 25th through the 27th from 10:00 a.m. of the 25th – 11:55 p.m. of the 27th – Pacific Standard Time (USA):

India Time – 11:30 p.m. – 1:25 a.m.
London Time – 6:00 p.m.  – 7:55 a.m.

This means you can come over to at any time during this period and link up any ONE recently or previously written post to the link-up.

As of now, this linky is open to posts of all topics. The only exception is a sponsored/advertorial post. You are not allowed to link up a sponsored or ad post to #BloggerBeatz. It is just not fair to have readers be forced to read a sponsored post because of a linky rule.

When linking, remember to use the link that goes directly to your post and not your blog’s homepage.

Because I want this to be a community of bloggers where everybody benefits, you have to follow some rules. The spirit of #BloggerBeatz is in writing and receiving a lot of comments and tweet love so please do at least the minimum required.

I will comment on every post linked to #BloggerBeatz.

I will also be tweeting every post linked to #BloggerBeatz.

Please follow these rules:

    1. Read and comment on the host’s (my) linked post. When commenting, use #BloggerBeatz at the end of your comment. I will be inviting guest hosts in the future so when that happens, I will also remind you to comment on the guest host’s post.
    2. Add the #BloggerBeatz badge to the bottom of your linked post in the HTML/Text portion of your blog editor. This is a must.
      <div align="center"><a href="" rel="nofollow" title="ThePhdMama" target="_blank"><img src="" alt="ThePhdMama" style="border: none;" /></a></div>

(Just copy and paste the code inside the box above to the bottom of your blog post. Remember to be in the HTML/Text – not Visual – part of your post editor)

    3. If you are not already on Twitter, sign up for an account. If you are already there, let all your followers know that you have linked up to #BloggerBeatz with @thephdmama.
    4. If you do not already do, follow me @thephdmama. I’ll follow you back.
    5. Read and comment on the two posts before yours and one after. For whatever reason, if this is not an option (let’s say you were the last one to link up for the week and therefore do not have one posted after yours), comment on a different post. Always leave the #Bloggerbeatz at the end of your comment. Just make sure you have commented on a total of FOUR posts including the host’s post and used the #BloggerBeatz. Commenting on more posts is always welcome, of course, and this is a great way to build community and get other bloggers to visit your blog.
    6. Tweet at least TWO posts that you liked using the #BloggerBeatz.
    7. By participating in this linky, you give me permission to email you reminders of this link-up every month and for voting, should I decide to do this.

I know sometimes rules can be tedious but they need to be followed so everybody who participates gets a fair amount of “returns” in the form of commenting, tweets, new followers or readers, and traffic. I may make modifications as the linky develops.

Without further ado….I invite you to join my link party every month, from the 25th through the 27th.

Will you please be my first linky buddy? Can’t leave a gal to enjoy a party all by herself now, c’mon….

(The link will open on the 25th. I will send out reminders)
